Pros and Cons of Automobiles

Automobiles are vehicles designed for the transportation of passengers. The term automobile is derived from the French word auto (self) and véhicule (carrier). It is often distinguished from a truck, which is designed for the transport of cargo, and a bus or omnibus, which is a large public vehicle designed to carry multiple passengers in addition to a limited amount of cargo.

The automobile is considered one of the most significant inventions in the 20th Century. It has influenced our culture and connected us in ways that were unimaginable prior to its development. There are many advantages to owning a car, but there are also disadvantages. Some of the most common negatives associated with automobile ownership include maintenance, parking problems, and fuel costs.

PROS: INDEPENDENCE AND FREEDOM

Having your own car gives you the freedom to travel wherever and whenever you want. You can be in a different city or state for work in no time at all, and you can drive your friends to visit as well. You can even travel long distances on vacation without having to worry about a flight or train schedule.

CONS: ECOLOGICAL PROBLEMS

The most obvious drawback of the automobile is that it uses fossil fuels, which produce carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas. It is estimated that the automobile accounts for 27 percent of the nation’s total carbon dioxide emissions. Taking steps to limit your usage of automobiles will help to reduce this number and protect the environment.
