What Is Fashion?

Fashion is the way in which people dress, usually referring to styles of clothing and accessories. It can also mean the way that people behave and etiquette. Fashion is a form of art that changes constantly. The most fashionable items are often new and original. Some examples of this are the gladiator shoes worn by actors in the movie Gladiator or the baggy pants that were popular on TV sitcoms like The Fresh Prince of Bel Air or 90210.

Designers are the main force behind fashion, and they create clothes that are exhibited in Fashion shows which are held in Paris, New York and Milan. They try to predict how people will want to dress in the future. The clothes created by designers are often made in limited runs and sold at high prices. The lower-cost versions of these clothes are made by manufacturers and sold in chain stores. This type of fashion is called fast fashion.

Clothes can reveal the groups that people belong to, such as goths, skaters and preps. They can also create stereotypes and distance between groups. For example, a boy with green hair and multiple piercings may be seen as a rebel by some and a conformist by others.

People who set the trends in fashion are known as trend-setters. They are people with fame, talent, an intriguing personality or beauty who influence how other people look. They can be famous actors, singers, models and politicians. They can also be people from the business world, such as entrepreneurs or investors who fund the creation of new fashions. Trendsetters are generally praised for their taste and elegance.
